2020-W NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue 1 oz American Palladium Eagle Coin - Joel Iskowitz Label
The American Palladium Eagle coin is a relatively new addition to the U.S. Mint’s lineup. It was introduced in 2017 as the first official palladium bullion coin from the United States.
The US Mint produces limited quantities of Palladium Eagles struck with 1 troy oz of .9995 fine palladium. The American Palladium Eagle symbolizes both innovation and tradition in American coinage.
These coins, in particular, carry the “W” mint mark, indicating their issuance in the West Point Mint. They were purchased on day #1 of their official release, graded as MS-70 coins, and sealed with the NGC Joel Iskowitz Label.

The Design
The obverse replicates Adolph A. Weinman's “Winged Liberty” design, originally found on the Mercury Dime coin.
It depicts Lady Liberty’s bust wearing a Phrygian cap along with the engravings “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the artist's initials, and the year it was minted.
The reverse, inspired by the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal, depicts a Bald Eagle perched on a cliff holding a branch.
The design is also inscribed with “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” the face value of “$25,” the weight and purity “1 OZ Pd .9995 FINE,” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
An NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) operates independently of sovereign mints, evaluating and grading coins. Utilizing the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70, they meticulously assess coins based on their condition.
According to NGC, “First Day of Issue” refers to coins purchased from their original mints on the first day of their official release and submitted to its appraisal.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.
