Introducing the 2020 Gold Double Sovereign Coin, the first issue of a numismatic Great Britain Double Sovereign coin. This coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the first sovereign’s release into circulation. The coin began following the Great Recoinage Act of 1816 when the Great Britain Sovereign was adopted in 1817. The Great Britain Sovereign was introduced during King George III's reign, and a Great Britain Gold Double Sovereign was issued late in his reign in 1820. 

 

Issued by the Royal Mint, this coin is a perfect addition to any collection as it is an affordable piece struck with 22K gold containing .4708 Troy ounces. This brilliant uncirculated coin features a special Red AU alloy.This rose gold look makes for a unique piece to add to your bullion collection! The British Government fully backs the coins. 

 

The obverse depicts Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy surrounded by the inscription of “ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF.” The reverse face features the rendition of St. George standing on horseback slaying a dragon, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. On the bottom, the year of mintage is written.
