The Design

The obverse showcases Susana Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is encircled by the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “8 DOLLARS,” referring to the coin’s face value, and “D.G.REGINA,” which translates to “By the grace of God, Queen.”

The reverse design features the Bald Eagle in mid-flight in a peaceful seacoast valley. The inscriptions accompanying the image start with “CANADA 2020,” followed by “9999,” referring to the coin’s purity. At the bottom rim, the inscriptions read “FINE SILVER 1 ½ OZ ARGENT PUR,” which stands for metal content and weight. 

One of the RCM anticounterfeiting measures is a small maple leaf imprinted beside the Bald Eagle depiction, micro-laser engraved with the year of issuance.
