The Gold Kangaroo Coins have been a mainstay in the Perth Mint lineup since 1986. Originally coins in the line were known as Gold Nuggets, but was later changed to the now iconic kangaroo in 1989. The Gold Kangaroo Coins have been popular among collectors and investors ever since.

On the reverse of the gold kangaroo coin is a depiction of a red kangaroo, the largest member of the kangaroo species. However, you’ll notice this is a different design from what is found on the silver kangaroo and platinum kangaroo coins, as it is the newest design from from the Perth Mint making it a must-have for any collector of the series. In addition to the new design, the words “AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO” and “2019 1/2oz 9999 GOLD” are inscribed around the border. The Perth Mint’s signature “P” mint mark is also found on the reverse of this gold kangaroo.

Since the 2019 half ounce gold kangaroo features new designs for both the Queen Elizabeth II effigy as well as the design of the reverse, this coin is great for collectors while being more affordable than the 1 oz version.
