The Design
Adolph A. Weinman's “Winged Liberty” design, originally found on the Mercury Dime coin, is reproduced on the obverse.
It features Lady Liberty’s effigy wearing a Phrygian cap and the engravings “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the artist's initials, and the year it was minted.
The reverse was inspired by the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal. It showcases a Bald Eagle perched on a cliff holding a branch.
It is also inscribed with “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” the face value of “$25,” the weight and purity “1 OZ Pd .9995 FINE,” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
An NGC PF-70 “Early Releases” Coin
NGC, which stands for Numismatic Guaranty Company, operates independently of sovereign mints, evaluating and grading coins. Utilizing the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70.
To NGC, an “Early Releases” is a coin purchased from its original mint within 30 days of its official release and submitted to NGC appraisal.
PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
