The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty walks toward the sun's rays enveloped in the American flag. She holds oak and laurel branches in one hand while stretching the other arm. The word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage complete the obverse design.

On the reverse, the Heraldic Eagle has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. Thirteen pointed stars above the Eagle represent the original colonies.

The “S” mint mark from the San Francisco branch is on the lower left.

The inscriptions  “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” describing the face value, weight, metal content, and purity encircle the image.

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.

American Silver Eagles are part of the American Eagle Program.

All silver Eagles weigh 1 Troy oz of 99.9% silver, have a thickness of 2.98 mm, and have a diameter of 40.6 mm.

Despite the same design, Proof Silver Eagles have a different appearance due to their proof finish.

In 2018, the US Mint crafted Proof Silver Eagles through the West Point and the San Francisco branches. The San Francisco Mint delivered 208,258 units that year.
