2018 PCGS MS-70 First Week Struck 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand Coin
The South African Mint introduced Silver Krugerrands to the bullion market as a commemorative strike for the 50th Anniversary of the Gold Krugerrand, released in 1967.
However, the success of this limited strike made Silver Krugerrands an annual edition coin.
In addition to the historical relevance showcased in their design, Silver Krugerrands weigh 1 oz of 99.9% fine silver, hold legal tender status, and have a fully guaranteed face value.
These Silver Krugerrands, in particular, are among those made publicly available within the first week of issuance in the South African Mint.
SD Bullion offers 2018 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand Coins, sealed in PCGS slabs and classified as MS-70 First Week Struck coins.

- Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as MS-70 coins by PCGS;
- Among those made publicly available within the first week of issuance;
- Produced by the South African Mint;

The Design
The obverse features Paul Krugerrand, a significant figure in South Africa's struggle for independence. It also contains the country’s name in English and Afrikaans, flanking his left-facing portrait.
The traditional reverse design showcases the Springbok Antelope, a native species and national symbol. Above the animal is the inscription “KRUGERRAND,” while “FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1,” indicating the metal content, weight, and face value, is at the bottom. The year of issuance completes the design.
A PCGS MS-70 First Week Struck Coin
PCGS, or Professional Coin Grading Service, works independently from sovereign mints. It appraises and grades coins from 1 to 70 using the Sheldon Scale according to their condition.
An MS-70 coin is a business strike coin that is flawless and has never been in circulation. That is why it receives a grade of 70, the highest score on the scale.
As the moniker suggests, the PCGS calls “First Week Struck,” the coins issued within the first week of public availability by the SA Mint.
