The Design

Former Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy depicted in the obverse design is a creation of Raphael Maklouf, and it is encircled by the coin's information regarding its legal tender status, face value, year of issuance, weight, purity, and metal content. The inscriptions read “QUEEN ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE TWO DOLLARS,” “2017”, and “2 OZ 999 FINE SILVER.”

The reverse design, named “Wisemen,” refers to the three wise men who followed a star from the East to Bethlehem to meet Mary and the newborn Jesus. The image features these three in their search, following the Star of Bethlehem while arousing other ordinary men’s curiosity. The engraving “THE WISE MEN” is on top.

The absence of limiting rims in these coins allows the entire usage of the surface to imprint the reverse design. The antique shadow, allied with the dark luster from the proof finish, emphasizes the aspect of ancientness and highlights the most intricate design details.
