Australian Year of the Rooster Silver Coins

First minted in 1999 by the well-known Perth Mint in Australia, the Lunar series of coins are annually designed and minted to portray the Chinese zodiac symbol for that year. The first lunar series coins on the market featured the ‘rabbit’, symbolizing the Year of the Rabbit (1999) on the Chinese calendar. In accordance with this, brand new Rooster silver coins have been released as the year 2017 is the Year of the Rooster.

Established in June 1899, the Perth Mint is the oldest bullion mint Australian silver coins. It continues to provide precious metal refining and other services for the industry. Additionally, it is responsible for minting the majority of Australia’s precious metal legal tender coins such as Australian Platinum Koala coins, Australian Nugget gold coins, and Australian Silver Kookaburra coins. In 2011, the Perth Mint managed to create the largest, heaviest, and the most valuable gold coin in the world, smashing the record formerly held by the Royal Canadian Mint.

Each Silver Rooster coin contains 1 oz. of pure 99.99% Silver and are an essential purchase for lunar coin collectors who want to complete their collection. The renowned Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse along with the year ‘2017’ and the monetary denomination of ‘1 Dollar’. Moreover, depicting a beautiful imagery of a rooster watching over a hen and her chicks feed amongst bamboo foliage, the reverse of this silver coin is a pleasure to behold; also imprinted is the Chinese character for ‘Rooster’ and the Perth Mint’s customary ‘P’ mintmark.
