2016 NGC MS-70 Early Releases 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin - Edmund C. Moy Label
In 2016, the American Eagle Program reached its 30th anniversary since the first release of Silver and Gold Eagles.
The series quickly became popular with investors and collectors worldwide, which led to the extension of the collection, which included fractional gold options and varied finishes.
Half-ounce Gold Eagles are one of the varied coin sizes in the series. They follow the series’ trademarks regarding purity and design.
These coins, in particular, are 1/2 oz Gold Eagles purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of their official release. NGC graded them as MS-70 coins and sealed them with its exclusive Edmund C. Moy Label.
Edmund C. Moy served as the 38th Director of the US Mint from 2006 to 2011, earning recognition as the Father of the Modern Coin Era for his transformative impact on US Mint coinage. Under his visionary leadership, Moy introduced innovative designs and oversaw the creation of iconic series such as the 24k Gold Buffalo and the revered 2009 Ultra High Relief coin. Additionally, his initiatives resulted in unprecedented minting of gold and silver coins, sparking widespread global interest in modern U.S. Coins.

The symbolism refers to the nation’s direction to enlightenment and peace.
On the reverse, Miley Busiek’s nesting Bald Eagles are depicted as a family. On this side, the inscriptions correspond to “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the two mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the face value of “25 DOLLARS” and “1/2 OZ FINE GOLD.”
An NGC MS-70 Early Releases Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) uses the Sheldon Grading Scale as a parameter to evaluate and attribute grades to coins.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.
NGC considers “Early Releases” the coins purchased and taken to its evaluation within the first 30 days of public release by the US Mint.
