The Design

The elegant portrait of Queen Elizabeth II depicted on the obverse was created by Susanna Blunt. It also contains the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II,” “8 DOLLARS,” referring to the coin’s face value, and “D.G.REGINA,” which translates to “By the grace of God, Queen.”

The reverse design features the Snow Falcon in mid-flight, with intricate details engraved on its feathers. The inscriptions accompanying the image start with “CANADA 2016” on top, “9999” refer to the coin’s purity, and “FINE SILVER 1 ½ OZ ARGENT PUR” for metal content and weight. 

One of the RCM anticounterfeiting measures is a small maple leaf imprinted beneath the Falcon portrait and a micro-laser engraved with the year of issuance.
