2014-W NGC MS-70 Early Releases 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin - West Point Star Label
The American Gold Eagle Series is an extensive collection of 22k gold coins featuring the 1907 Saint-Gaudens design and Miley Busiek’s depiction of the Bald Eagle. These coins are available in various sizes and finishes, including burnished versions.
Burnished Gold Eagles undergo a special treatment process that polishes the blanks and cleans them from undesired oxides. That results in a matte appearance with more vivid design details.
These burnished coins were purchased from the US Mint during the first 30 of public availability and carry the “W” mint mark, identifying the West Point branch as the mint that issued them.
You can find 2014-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagles at SD Bullion, graded as MS-70 Early Releases samples sealed in NGC slabs with the Exclusive West Point Star Label.

On the reverse, Busiek features a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male perches their nest.
The engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the coin’s information regarding weight, metal content, and face value are described as “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS” also appear on the reverse.
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
An NGC MS-70 Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) is globally recognized for evaluating and attributing grades to coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.
NGC considers “Early Releases” the coins purchased and taken to its evaluation within the first 30 days of public release by the US Mint.
