2014-W NGC MS-70 Early Releases 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin
Burnished Gold Eagles undergo a special treatment process that polishes the blanks and cleans them from undesired oxides. That results in a matte appearance with more vivid design details.
These Burnished Gold Eagles, in particular, were purchased from the US Mint during the first 30 of public availability and carry the “W” mint mark, identifying the West Point branch as the mint that issued them.
SD Bullion offers 2014-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagles, sealed and graded by NGC as MS-70 Early Releases samples.

The Design
Saint-Gaudens’ obverse design reflects the nation's evolution toward progress, peace, and enlightenment by depicting Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch and an olive branch.
It also imprints the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year. The “W” mint mark is on the right.
Miley Busiek’s reverse illustration features a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male perches their nest.
The design also contains the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS” describing weight, metal content, and face value.
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
An NGC MS-70 Coin
The Sheldon Grading Scale is used as a parameter by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) to evaluate and attribute grades to coins.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.
NGC considers “Early Releases” the coins purchased and taken to its evaluation within the first 30 days of public release by the US Mint.
