The annually changing designs of the Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins keeps investors and collectors on their toes – awaiting the release of the next coin in the series. These 2011 1 oz Australian Kookaburra Silver Coins continue the famed coin program with another elegant portrayal of the kookaburra bird.
Each of these coins contains 1 troy ounce of 0.999 pure silver. Moreover, the Australian Government recognizes these coins as legal tender – granting them a face value of $1 (AUD) each.
The obverse sides of these silver coins bear Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile portrait. Ian Rank-Broadley rendered the Queen’s portrait, and it is used on Australia’s legal tender coinage. The name of the Queen, name of the issuing country, and the coin’s face value encircle the Queen’s portrayal.
However, it is the design on the coin’s reverse that gives this coin program its name – a majestic kookaburra. This terrestrial tree kingfisher, native to Australia, is seen perched on a branch, about to take to the skies. Elisa Martinson, the artist credited with this design, captures the bird perfectly – highlighting its unique features.
These 2011 1 oz Australian Kookaburra Silver Coins will make excellent additions to coin collections – allowing collectors to complete their sets with a genuine BU kookaburra silver coin from the Perth Mint.
