Featuring a brand-new design, Perth Mint’s 2006 1 oz Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin continues the Kookaburra Silver Coin program’s over a decade-long success. Perth Mint launched it in 1990 to celebrate the unique kingfisher species that is native to Australia – the kookaburra bird.

The Perth Mint is Australia’s official bullion mint. It, along with the Royal Australian Mint, are responsible for producing circulating coinage in Australia. Although it started out as a branch of the Royal Mint in London, it is now wholly owned by the Government of Western Australia.

Each of these coins contains 1 troy ounce of 0.999 pure silver. Moreover, they are also assigned a face value of $1 (AUD).

The obverse sides of these silver coins bear Queen Elizabeth II’s right-profile effigy. The artist, Ian Rank-Broadley is credited with the creation of this image, which is used on Australia’s legal tender coinage.

Ryan Vanderwiel chose to feature two kookaburras perched on a gum tree branch on the reverses of these coins. The design’s intricate detail successfully captures the uniqueness of these birds.

These 2006 1 oz Australian Kookaburra Silver Coins are perfect candidates to help complete a Kookaburra Coin collection. Grab them before stocks run dry due to a mintage of only 87,044 coins.
