The Perth Mint pays tribute to the 20th anniversary of the first issuance of proof gold nuggets through a 2005 Welcome Stranger Gold Nuggets commemorative strike.

Proof Nuggets, introduced in 1986, depict natural nugget designs and celebrate the 2,284 oz Welcome Stranger nugget, the largest natural nugget ever found. This historical connection to the 1869 discovery in Australia adds a unique depth to the coin's value. 

Today, you can acquire the commemorative 2005 1 oz Australian  Welcome Stranger-Gold Nugget sealed in PCGS slabs and graded as PF-70 coins.
