These coins are solid 22k Gold coins. They feature a unique version of Britannia, the feminine national guise, in an untraditional pose seated atop a craggy rock, designed by Philip Nathan.

The Design

The obverse displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank Broadley, surrounded by the engravings “ELIZABETH’II’D’G’REG’FID’DEF’10’POUNDS’,” which stands for Her Majesty’s name, the Latin translation to “Reigning by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith,” and the coin’s face value.

The reverse showcases Philip Nathan’s design, which portrays Britannia seated on a rugged rock and gazing out to sea while her robes flutter in the wind. In her right hand, she holds a shield, highlighting her role as Protector of the British Isles. The laurel bush before her signifies her love of peace, while the helmet and trident in her left hand underscore her readiness for defense.

Because it is a proof coin, the blank surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster contrasting with the matte imprints from the design elements.
