1995-W NGC PF-68 UCAM 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coin
In 1995, the US Mint celebrated the 10th anniversary of the American Eagles Program, which was initiated by the Liberty Coin Act of 1985.
The program premiered with 1 oz Gold and 1 oz Silver Eagle coins. Soon after, it included size variations for Gold Eagles and Proof versions as well.
Proof Silver Eagles contain 1 oz of 99.9% fine silver, showcase the emblematic designs created by Adolph A. Weinman and John Mercanti and a distinctive mirror-like finish.
These coins, in particular, were issued in West Point, one of the US Mint branches, and carry the “W” mint mark.
Today, 1995-W 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof coins graded and certified by NGC as PF-68 UCAM coins are available for purchase at SD Bullion.

The Design
John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created the reverse design displaying the Heraldic Eagle with the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. Thirteen pointed stars above the Eagle represent the original colonies.
The “W” mint mark from the West Point branch is on the lower left, while the inscriptions describing the face value, weight, metal content, and purity encircle the image. They read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
The Silver Eagle obverse design comes from the 1917 Half-Dollar Coin, designed by Adolph A. Weinman.
Lady Liberty strides toward the sun's rays with the American flag draped on her shoulder. Hence, the moniker. She holds oak and laurel branches in one hand while stretching the other arm. It also displays the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.
An NGC PF-68 UCAM Coin
Third-party services like NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company use the Sheldon Scale as a parameter to appraise and grade coins.
The initials PF stand for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. It exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. The expression “UCAM” or Ultra Cameo means this contrast is deeper and more intense than in other proof coins.
Grade 68 is given to exceptionally well-struck coins with only minor imperfections.
