The Design

The obverse features Raphael Maklouf’s depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. The effigy is a right-profile bust of a young Monarch wearing the stunning Diamond Diadem. The inscriptions encircling the image include the coin’s face value, “ELIZABETH II,” and the letters “DEI GRATIA REGINA. F. D,” which stands for “By the grace of God, Queen.”

The reverse displays Britannia, the feminine personification of the nation. Since 1672, Britannia has been present on British coins. The reverse is a creation of Philip Nathan, in which Britannia faces a fierce wind, carrying the Union Jack Shield and her trident. 

The information engraved on the outer rim refers to the coin’s weight, metal content, fineness, and issuance.

Because they are proof coins, their blank fields exhibit a mirror-like luster, while the design elements are engraved with a matte finish.
