1984 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin
The 1984 edition corresponds to the sixth strike of the Gold Maple Leaf Series.
Unlike the debuting 1979 Gold Maple Leaf, the 1984 samples are 99.99% pure gold, the result of the Royal Canadian Mint’s advances to elevate the series’ purity levels.
The series included fractional sizes in 1982, but the 1 Troy oz version remains, to this day, one of the most solid investments in gold bullion.

The Design
The 1984 Gold Maple Leaf features the same design as the debuting coin from 1979 in a plain background surfaced coin.
The obverse showcases the right profile bust of a 39-year-old Queen Elizabeth II. The inscriptions that accompany the image refer to Her Majesty’s name, the coin’s face value, and the year of issuance through “ELIZABETH II,” “50 DOLLARS,” and “1984.”
The reverse displays a large maple leaf. The nation’s name is inscribed on top, the coin’s purity of “9999” flank the leaf image, and the inscriptions regarding weight and metal content are at the bottom, in French and English, which read: “FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR.”
Mintage
Gold Maple Leaf Coins premiered in 1979, weighing 1 Troy oz.
It is a coin measuring 2.80mm in thickness and 30mm in diameter, with a milesimal fineness of .999 and a face value of CAD 50, fully backed by the Canadian government.
In 1984, The Royal Canadian Mint produced 1,098,000 units of the 1 Troy oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins.
