The Design

The obverse features the current Mexican Coat of Arms encircled by the words “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.”

On the reverse, the Winged Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, has outstretched wings, broken chains, and a laurel wreath as symbols of freedom. 

The inscriptions inform the coin’s face value, “50 PESOS,” its weight, “37.5 Gr,” metal content “ORO PURO,” the year of independence “1821” on the lower left, and the minting year on the right.
