The Design
The obverse depicts Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty, the feminine guise of the nation, walking forward carrying a torch and an olive branch as a symbol of the nation's future development, with enlightenment and peace.
It includes the inscription “LIBERTY” on top, the Capitol Building imprinted on the lower left, and the year of issuance on the right.
On the reverse, the Bald Eagle flies above the sun. The supplementing inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TWENTY DOLLARS.”
