1901-S PCGS MS-62 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin
Liberty Double Eagles circulated in the US from 1850 to 1907. In addition to the USD 20 face value, these coins contained .9675 oz of gold.
They featured James B. Longacre’s design, the fourth Chief Engraver of the US Mint, with the most iconic figures of American coinage: Lady Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle.
During the 57 years of regular coinage, the US Mint used several of its branches to craft $20 Liberty Double Eagle coins. The coins issued by the San Francisco Mint bear the “S” mint mark on the reverse side.

The Design
The obverse displays the left profile bust of Lady Liberty, who wears a tiara engraved with “LIBERTY.” It also contains thirteen six-pointed stars that refer to the Thirteen Original Colonies and the year of mintage.
On the reverse, the Heraldic Eagle was designed with spread wings, the national shield in front of its chest, arrows in its talons, and the banner “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak.
The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin’s face value of “TWENTY DOLLARS” accompany the image.
