1899 PCGS MS-63 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin
Liberty Double Eagles were crafted by the US Mint to be the official $20 circulating coin from 1850 to 1907. They contain .9675 oz of gold and feature James B. Longacre’s design, the fourth Chief Engraver of the US Mint.
The economic collapse in the 1930s caused a rise in the gold price, which led to a Confiscation Act and a popular freakout. Uncountable pre-1933 gold coins, such as the $20 Liberty Double Eagle coin, were confiscated, hoarded, and melted down because of their gold content. Consequently, the number of these coins in the numismatic world severely decreased.
At SD Bullion, 1899 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins, sealed and certified by PCGS as MS-63 coins, are available for purchase today.
