The US Mint crafted Liberty Eagle Gold Coins from 1838 to 1907, containing .4837 oz of gold, for widespread circulation as an official $10 coin. 

Besides its valuable gold content, the $10 Liberty Eagle is imprinted with a patriotic design illustrated by Christian Gobrecht, the third Chief Engraver of the US Mint.

The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty’s bust wearing a coronet inscribed "LIBERTY." Her effigy is encircled by thirteen stars, symbolizing the original thirteen colonies and the year of mintage.

The reverse showcases the Heraldic Eagle, which bears the national shield on its chest, arrows and oak branches in its talons, and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on a banner above.

The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TEN D." indicate the coin's origin and face value.
