The US Mint produced the Liberty Quarter Eagle Coin, containing 0.12094 troy ounces of gold, as the official circulating quarter coin from 1840 to 1907. 

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, it holds the record for the longest unchanged design in American gold coinage history.

The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty adorned with a coronet inscribed with "LIBERTY," facing left. This image is surrounded by thirteen six-pointed stars representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, with the year of mintage at the bottom. 

The reverse displays the Heraldic Eagle with outstretched wings, bearing the national shield on its chest and holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The inscriptions on this side include only the nation’s name and the coin’s face value.
