The 1844-O is a tremendous rarity in ANY mint state condition. 

Current PCGS Population Reports illustrate that out of a mintage of 118,700 eagles from the New Orleans mint from this year - there are actually only a total of 8 coins that have been certified in ANY mint state condition! 

In fact, beyond this featured MS61 offering - PCGS has certified just ONE single coin in a finer grade of MS62.  (Incidentally, the current PCGS value listed on the MS62 is $67,500).  With this coin being so close in grade - it's a great value at this level. 

The coin itself is just gorgeous.  It's clearly original, plenty of original skin, it has an almost satin-like finish and a warm gold color.  It's amazing that this southern branch mint rarity has survived in this high level of preservation.  A great opportunity at a very reasonable price point.
