The Mermaid Silver Round contains one ounce of .999 fine silver and is made by the Intaglio Mint, based out of Denver, CO. Mermaids are mythological creatures that developed in the legends and popular culture of nearly all coastal civilizations over the last thousand years. The religions in these regions often focused heavily on the potential dangers around them in the water as society evolved along the seaways and oceans. For this reason some of the most ancient gods were a mixture of man and fish. The female sea gods emerged in their religions as well over time. One of the finest examples of mermen in ancient mythology was Triton, the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Often these legendary creatures were depicted as lovely females with a lower body that looked like a fish and the top half of a woman's body. In the beginning, mermaids depicted the unknown of the sea and the dangers of open water; while our society and science developed, mermaids became a myth that only appeared in art and media.

The obverse will feature a mermaid in the center swimming through an ocean of human skulls with their abandoned ship and two more mermaids behind her. This intricately designed round features the words “THE MERMAID” above the mermaid in the center of the round.

As seen on most Intaglio silver rounds, the reverse boasts the Intaglio Mint logo. Details of its purity and weight are engraved at the bottom and top of this side respectively.
