1 oz Silver Kraken Round

This Kraken Silver Round is made by the Intaglio Mint using one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. The Kraken is a mythic colossal monster near the shores of Norway and Greenland. An anonymous author of a scientific paper from the 13th century described the actions of two creatures, Lyngbakr and Hafgufa. It is said that Hafgufa is linked to the kraken. The author speculates that because there were only two specimens ever observed, that the animals must have been unable to reproduce. The legendary mythological creature may have come from the sightings of real colossal squid, estimated to reach lengths of up to 46 feet, including tentacles. These animals usually live deep in the ocean but are seen on the surface and have allegedly "attacked" ships before when disturbed.

The obverse of these silver rounds features the Kraken attacking a ship and dragging it into the depths of the ocean. There will be a ship in the background with seagulls in mid-air. The words “THE KRAKEN” will be featured at the top of the round.

The reverse of the Kraken Silver Round features the Intaglio Mint logo. The Intaglio logo is a pillar bearing the words “EST. 2010” on it with a map of the Earth with “INTAGLIO” above and “MINT” below it behind the pillar. This is surrounded by beautifully crafted lines which are encircled by the words, “ONE TROY OUNCE” & “.999 FINE SILVER”. Note, reverses vary from year to year, a specfic year cannot be guaranteed and may not match the product image.
