1 oz American Silver Eagle Burnished Coin - In Capsule Only - Random Year
The American Silver Eagle is renowned for its distinctive imagery, highlighting classic symbols of the United States through depictions of Lady Liberty and the American Eagle, designs which have become one of the most celebrated images in American coinage.
Originally launched in 1986 as part of the American Eagle Program, the coin's success led the United States Mint to introduce additional collector-focused versions, including Proof and Burnished Silver Eagles.
These particular coins are the burnished versions, made from blanks that have undergone a special burnishing process. This treatment removes unwanted oxides, giving the coins a matte finish and enhancing the sharpness of their design details.
At SD Bullion, you can acquire 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagles, in a capsule, of varied mintages, randomly taken from our stocks, based on current inventory availability at the time of shipping.

The Obverse Design
Created by Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse depicts Lady Liberty striding confidently toward the rising sun. She extends one arm forward while carrying oak branches and is draped in the folds of the American flag. Additional engravings consist of the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance.
Reverse Type 1
The original reverse was designed by John Mercanti, who served as Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint.
The design features a Heraldic Eagle positioned beneath thirteen stars, representing the original thirteen colonies. The eagle bears the national shield on its breast, grasps arrows and an olive branch in its talons, and carries a ribbon inscribed with “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak.
Surrounding the design are the coin’s key specifications and inscriptions, including “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” denoting its country of origin, silver content, and face value.
Reverse Type 2
To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program, the United States Mint introduced a new reverse design in 2021.
Created by Emily Damstra, the updated artwork features a Bald Eagle perched gracefully on a branch, offering a modern interpretation of America's national bird.
The design is encircled by inscriptions identifying the coin's issuing nation, denomination, weight, and silver purity, including “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ.,” and “FINE SILVER.” This contemporary reverse has become a defining feature of the current generation of American Silver Eagle coins.
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned of all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
Current dates are generally available from the US Mint, sold in packaging that denotes them as "Uncirculated Silver Eagles". "Burnished" is a widely recognized bullion and numismatic industry term.
