The Design
Longacre’s obverse design showcases Lady Liberty looking left, wearing a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY.” The image is supplemented by thirteen stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies on the border.
On the reverse, the coin’s face value of “1 DOLLAR” is in the spotlight. It is accompanied by the year of issuance, surrounded by a wreath encircled by “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
