The Design

The obverse showcases the fourth official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Around the effigy, the monarch's name and the face value read “ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA · 50 DOLLARS.”

The reverse features the Australian Kangaroo in a unique portrait, standing next to a windmill. The image is accompanied by the “P” mint mark from the Perth Mint and the series’ name engraved on top.

At the bottom rim, the inscriptions inform the coin’s issuance, weight, purity, and metal content through “2012 1/2 oz 9999 GOLD.”

An NGC MS-70 Early Release Coin

The NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company is an independent third-party service that appraises coins and grades them from 1 to 70 based on their condition using the Sheldon Grading Scale.

According to the NGC, “Early Release” coins are those manufactured in the first 30 days of production. MS stands for Mint State, referring to a coin made in the same format as a business circulation sample that has never been in circulation. Grade 70 refers to a perfect coin.
