2025 US Silver Morgan Dollar Coin - In Capsule

The Morgan Silver Dollar, a brilliant symbol of American heritage and numismatic craftsmanship, was first introduced in 1878 and served as the nation’s official dollar coin until 1904, with a final minting in 1921.

In 2021, the U.S. Mint issued a special commemorative release to mark the centennial of that last strike. The overwhelming response reignited interest in the design, leading to the continuation of Morgan Dollar releases.

These modern restrikes honor the timeless elegance and detail that have made the Morgan Dollar a collector favorite for over a century. Each coin is meticulously struck, featuring the iconic profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse and a proud American eagle on the reverse, symbols of the coin’s enduring legacy.

The Design

The obverse was designed by Chief Engraver George T. Morgan, who named the coin. It displays Lady Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton balls and a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY." 

It is also engraved with the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," thirteen stars representing the original colonies and the year of issuance. 

The reverse features a Bald Eagle with outstretched wings holding arrows and olive branches in its talons, encircled by laurels. 

It is inscribed with "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "ONE DOLLAR."
