The 2025 edition introduces the Year of the Snake and portrays the sixth zodiac sign of the Chinese Calendar in a detailed design that symbolizes mystery and wisdom. 

In addition, the 2025 strike marks a significant moment in the series’ history. It premiers the effigy of King Charles III as the new series’ obverse design.

The Design

The reverse features a snake coiled in a bamboo trunk. Additional engravings correspond to its Chinese character and its translation, “SNAKE,” the year of issuance, “2025,” and a discreet “P” mint mark on the left identifying the Perth Mint.

On the obverse, Charles III’s left profile bust, designed by Dan Thorne, is encircled by inscriptions reading “CHARLES III,” “AUSTRALIA” on top, “1 oz 9995 Pt”, and “100 DOLLARS” on the bottom rim, referring to the coin’s weight, fineness, metal content, and face value. 

The Year of the Snake

The Chinese Zodiac cycles through its signs annually, with each year associated with a specific animal. 

The Year of the Snake returns in 2025, having last appeared in 2013, 2001, 1989, and earlier years. Those born under this sign are often seen as mysterious, wise, and compassionate.
