2024-W NGC PF-70 UC FDI 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle - Exclusive Ronald Reagan Label

The American Eagle Program debuted in 1986 with a Gold Eagle in bullion form, with the proof version following a few months later.

This Proof Gold Eagle is a 22-karat gold coin, with guaranteed 1 full Troy oz of actual gold content. It bears legal tender status, iconic designs that highlight the American ideals of freedom and progress, and the “W” mint mark from the West Point branch.

Ronald Reagan, who served as the 40th US President from 1981 to 1989, fiercely advocated for coin collecting and bullion investing. He signed the Liberty Coin Act of 1985 and the Bullion Coin Act of 1985, which grounded the production of American Eagle Coins. He also issued a Presidential Proclamation in 1983, establishing the week of April 17 as the "National Coin Week."

Today, you can purchase, at SD Bullion, 2024-W 1 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins from those sold on the first day of issue in the US Mint, certified as PF-70 samples and sealed by the NGC with an Exclusive Ronald Reagan Facsimile Signature label with his portrait overlaying the Oval Office.

The Design

The obverse showcases the image Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed to be on the $20 Double Eagle Coin in 1907.

Lady Liberty marches forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing progress, light, and peace. The word “LIBERTY” stars representing national states, the year of issuance, the US Capitol Building, and the “W” mint mark complete the image.

The current reverse design is the one created by Jennie Norris for the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Program. In the image, the majestic eagle is depicted in a left-profile close-up with a hooked beak and a staring gaze.

The coin’s face value, weight, and metal content are engraved as “50 DOLLARS,” “1 OZ FINE GOLD.” The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are also present.

An NGC PF-70 UC First Day of Issue Coin

NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company is a third-party grading service that uses the Sheldon Scale as a parameter to appraise and grade coins.

NGC considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day it was made publicly available.

PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. The expression “UCAM” or Ultra Cameo means this contrast is deeper and more intense than in other proof coins.

Grade 70 is attributed to coins that present no visible marks.
