The Design

The Coat of Arms of Niue is stamped on the obverse, along with the coin's face value of “250 DOLLARS” on top, and the year of mintage on the bottom.

The reverse features the Roaring Lion design, which consists of a crowned lion with a wide open mouth, sharp teeth in a roaring movement, and a huge mane. The Aleph Tav Symbol את on the crown identifies it as the Lion of Judah.

The lion is imprinted over a background reflective regal floral-like pattern.

The hidden message from the Scriptures is inscribed on the crown band.

Because it is a reverse-proof coin, its surface has a frosted aspect, while the images engraved over it are oppositely bright. That makes design details more vivid and perceptible against the matte background.
