The Design

The reverse, created by John M. Mercanti, is a shared design that features two iconic symbols of the US and the UK: the Lion and the Eagle.

It is accompanied by the Liberty Bell, flanked by oak, as a privy mark; the year of issuance and engraved with “THE LION AND THE EAGLE.” 

The obverse portrays the effigy of King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings, encircled by the inscriptions “100 POUNDS,” “2024,” “CHARLES III,” and the letters “D·G·REX·F·D,” meaning “By the grace of God, King” in Latin.

An NGC PF-70 Advanced Releases Coin 

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) appraises coins independently of sovereign mints and grades them using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.

NGC calls “Advanced Releases” coins purchased before their release at their original mints.

PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. Because it is a reverse-proof coin, the background surfaces are matte, contrasting with the brilliant images engraved on it. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.

Since it has never been in circulation, the coin exhibits no signs of wear, tear, or scratching, earning it a grade of 70.
