The Una and the Lion Series is the new release of the Royal Mint, inspired by Edmund Spenser’s famous poem, “The Faerie Queene.” 

The series comprises gold and silver bars of high purity and varied sizes, which include a heavier 100 Troy oz minted ingot made of 99.99% pure silver.

Una, the tale's main character, is a princess who finds herself in trouble when a terrible dragon imprisons her parents. During her escape, she comes across a lion who falls in love with her beauty and serenity instead of devouring her and becomes her loyal champion.

The Design

The front design showcases Una and the Lion in an alluring design created by Jody Clark, who found inspiration in William Wyon’s design for the Royal Mint’s previous coin series with the same theme.

Innovating the Royal Mint’s standard designs, the image is landscape-oriented. It features Una and her loyal lion, overlapping a decorated backdrop, with the words “DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS,” which translates to “May God direct my steps,” engraved at the bottom. This text was featured on the original design of the Una and the Lion coinage minted by the Royal Mint. 

The other side has the same background pattern, the Royal Mint logo imprinted on the left, and the bar’s weight, metal content, and purity on the right are described as “100 oz 999.9 FINE SILVER.”
