2024 1 oz Australian Perth Mint’s 125th Anniversary Platinum Coin

The Australian Perth Mint celebrated its 125th Anniversary by releasing a special set of commemorative, limited-struck gold, silver, and platinum one-ounce coins.

They all share the same design, which showcases the leader of the British Commonwealth Community on the obverse and the iconic motifs of the mint’ most famous coin collections: the Kookaburra, the Koala, and the Kangaroo on the reverse.

The Perth Mint started operating in Western Australia in 1899 and played an essential role in the country's economic development. Its current activities include refining and producing precious metal coins and medals for investment and collectible purposes.

Only 5,000 units of Platinum commemorative coins were struck weighing 1 Troy oz of 99.95% pure platinum and featuring an exclusive mint mark for the occasion, the “P125.”

The Design

The effigy of King Charles III portrayed on the obverse was designed by Dan Thorne and is accompanied by the inscriptions “CHARLES III,” “AUSTRALIA,” and “100 DOLLARS.”

The reverse design is standard to the coins of this commemorative edition. It showcases the Koala, the Kangaroo, and the Kookaburra, the motif of the Perth Mint’s most famous coin series, amid golden wattle, Australia’s national floral emblem. The banner at the bottom refers to the mint’s years of active work and reads: “1899 THE PERTH MINT 2024,”

The coin’s description of mintage, weight, metal content, and purity is engraved on top. It reads “2024 1 oz 9995 PLATINUM.” The Pert Mint’s 125th Anniversary is on the left, identified through the “P125” mint mark.
