2024 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coin

Gold Maple Leaf Coins are produced in ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz, and 1 gram, besides the usual 1 oz standard coin.

Enthusiasts who want to keep their collections complete and updated look forward to Canadian Maple Leaf’s annual releases to get one sample of each coin issued.

Investors searching for investment portfolio diversification may find having Gold Maple Leaf Coins among their assets a savvy choice for its liquidity as a world-renowned gold product.

These coins are made of 999.9 pure gold bullion.

The 2024 edition is a landmark in the collection because it is the first strike of Gold Maple Leaf Coins stamping the new obverse design with the official effigy of King Charles III, the new monarch of the British Commonwealth.

Coin Highlights

  • Contains ½ oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition;
  • Holds a CAD 20 denomination and legal tender status;
  • Exclusive authentication system - Bullion DNA;
  • The obverse depicts King Charles III for the first time in the series;
  • The reverse features the sugar maple leaf.

The Design

As the series name suggests, the main motif is the sugar maple leaf, a Canadian national symbol that stamps the reverse design. The image is in a central position, flanked by the coin’s information regarding metal content, purity, and weight in French and English. The engravings read “CANADA,” “9999,” “FINE GOLD,” “1/2 OZ,” and “OR PUR.”

The new obverse design depicts King Charles III’s effigy for the first time in the series. Opposingly to the Queen’s, His Majesty’s portrait is a left-profile bust, but the inscriptions surrounding it are the same. They consist of “CHARLES III,” “20 DOLLARS,” and “2024.”

Both background surfaces are incused with radial lines. And a small maple leaf lies on the lower right of the reverse design, beneath the main one, with the last two digits of the mintage year micro-engraved as a security measure.

Mintage

Common to most coin collections, the Maple Leaf Series debuted with one-troy-ounce coins in 1979. Fractional sizes, including the ½ oz coin, were additional issues, broadening the collection.

Following the series patterns, the 1/2 oz Gold Maple Leaf is made of 99.99% pure gold and has a face value of CAD 20, fully guaranteed by the Canadian Government.

RCM Bullion DNA

The Bullion DNA is a Royal Canadian Mint exclusive anticounterfeiting technology. DNA stands for Digital Non-Destructive Activation, meaning each coin receives an encrypted string of codes during the registration process, which remains stored on the RCM’s database and is only readable through a specialized scanner.
