2024 1/2 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coin
Part of one of the most famous coin series around the globe, the Australian Perth Mint launches another edition of the beloved Gold Kangaroos.
The series' popularity comes from the design and size variations. Each annual strike brings a unique depiction of the kangaroo in its natural habitat, which is very appealing to coin enthusiasts. And size options vary from traditional 1 oz to 1/10 oz.
Investors who usually acquire tangible assets to diversify their investment portfolios may also enjoy Gold Kangaroos. They are legal tender, hold monetary denomination, and are made of 999.9 pure gold bullion.
Coin Highlights
- Contains 1/2 oz of .9999 fine gold;
- Brilliant Uncirculated condition coins;
- Holds a face value of 50 Dollars, backed by the Australian Federal Government;
- Engraved micro-laser security feature on the reverse side;
- New obverse mintage with King Charles III;
- The reverse depicts the Australian Kangaroo.
Gold Kangaroo Designs
As the series moniker suggests, the Australian Kangaroo is the motif stamped on the coins. These marsupials are indigenous to Australia, especially the Red Kangaroo.
Kangaroos became a national symbol in 1908 by inclusion in the country’s Coat of Arms, representing the nation’s fast development, always moving forward, like a kangaroo.
Besides an original depiction of the Kangaroo, the reverse side also features the series name “KANGAROO,” the year of mintage, weight, purity, and metal content information.
As previously announced, the 2024 issue underwent an update in its obverse design to showcase the rising monarch and leader of the British Commonwealth nations.
The new obverse depicts King Charles III’s effigy in a left-profile bust, surrounded by the inscriptions: “CHARLES III,” “AUSTRALIA,” and “50 DOLLARS.”
The Australian Perth Mint
Initially founded to be a local branch of the Royal Mint, the Perth Mint started operating in 1899 in Perth when the country was a British colony. With Australian independence, the mint came into the ownership of the Western Australian Government, which maintained its operations by making bullion coins to meet internal and international interests.
