The Design

The obverse features the effigy of the new Ruler of the Commonwealth Community, King Charles III, through the eyes of Jody Clark. Surrounding His Majesty’s bust, the inscriptions list the coin's information. 

They read “KING CHARLES III,” “NIUE TWO DOLLARS,” “2023”, and “2 OZ 999 FINE SILVER,” and stand for the King’s name, the nation who ensures the coin’s legal tender, the face value, issuance, weight, fineness, and metal content.

The biblical scene that names the coin is on top of the reverse design and reads “THE TOWER OF BABEL.”

The scene reflects humanity’s attempt to build a tower that could reach the heavens. In front of the monumental tower we can see the despair in the men when they notice their inability to understand each other.

The absence of limiting rims in these coins allows the entire usage of the surface. The antique shadow, allied with the dark luster from the proof finish, emphasizes the aspect of ancientness and highlights the most intricate design details.

The Biblical Series

The Biblical Series debuted in 2015, promising a complete series of 60 two-ounce coins. The Tower of Babel is the 51st coin of the series, released among others in 2023. Each design showcases a famous scene described in the Bible and created by the renowned French artist Gustave Duré.
