The Design

The obverse showcases the effigy of King Charles III, the new leader of the British Commonwealth Community, designed by Jody Clark. His Majesty’s bust is encircled by “KING CHARLES III,” “NIUE TWO DOLLARS,” “2023”, and “2 OZ 999 FINE SILVER.” 

The biblical scene that names the coin is on the reverse design and reads “MOSES IN THE BULRUSHES.”

The scene reflects the moment when Moses’ mother lays a basket made of bulrushes in the river with him inside in an attempt to save Moses against the king’s threats of killing every newborn male baby. In the image, the masked figures around Moses’ mother are guardian angels who cared for him until the basket approached the king’s sister for his sake.

The absence of limiting rims in these coins allows the entire usage of the surface. The antique shadow, allied with the dark luster from the proof finish, emphasizes the aspect of ancientness and highlights the most intricate design details.
