The Design 

The obverse design will feature a brand new effigy of King Charles III, a Martin Jennings' creation. The Latin inscription at the borders read “CHARLES III - D - G - REX - F - D - 2 POUNDS - 2022,” which translates to ‘Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.’

The reverse showcases a Philip Nathan depiction of Britannia from 1987, specially designed for the coin’s release. Britannia protects the realm by carrying the Union Jack Shield and her trident against a fierce storm that brews on the west coast of Britain. The inscriptions encircling the image read “BRITANNIA,” the year of issuance, “1 oz,” and “999.5 PLATINUM.” for weight, fineness, and metal content.

The Mintage

The Britannia Series debuted in 1987 with the 1 oz Gold Britannia. The Platinum Britannias came out only in 2017, keeping up with the high quality already established by the Mint with the gold and silver versions of the program. Containing 1 oz of .9995 fine platinum, they add some diversity to the British catalog of products.
