The Design
The obverse features the Unicorn, which names the series. The uniqueness of this particular coin comes from the purple mane the Unicorn design exhibits, along with the golden spiraled horn that shines in the galactic backdrop with other stars.
The Unicorn’s close-up lies near a castle, contributing to the magic atmosphere of the image.
The portrait of the former monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, stamps the reverse side, surrounded by stars in a bright monochromatic silver tone.
The same celestial backdrop that encircles the Unicorn appears around Her Majesty’s effigy.
Inscriptions describing the coin’s weight, purity, metal content, face value, and issuance read “ELIZABETH II,” “FIVE CEDIS,” “REPUBLIC OF GHANA,” and “1 TROY OUNCE. 2023. 999 FINE SILVER.”
Since it is a proof coin, it displays a mirror-like luster, noticeable on the blank surfaces, due to the special treatment dies receive to make this effect. That causes an admirable contrast with the colors used to imprint the obverse-colored design.
