The Design

The obverse depicts the face of the Statue of Liberty, created by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, who also designed the reverse of the original American Silver Eagle. 

The image also displays the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” the words: “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.

The reverse showcases the Heraldic Eagle, by Thomas D. Rogers, flying as the sun rises. The inscriptions read: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “.9995,” “PLATINUM,” “1 oz,” and “$100”.
