2017 NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coin - John M. Mercanti Label
American Gold Eagles are some of the most sought-after gold bullion coins globally. They are available in 22k gold and come in various sizes and finishes, attracting collectors and investors worldwide.
John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created numerous designs for US circulating, commemorative, and bullion coins, including the original reverse of the Silver Eagles. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the most influential figures in numismatics.
Today, SD Bullion offers 2017 1 oz American Gold Eagles from those purchased in the US Mint on day #1 of their official release. They are certified by NGC as MS-70 coins and are sealed with a special hand-signed label by John M. Mercanti.

It features Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch and an olive branch, the word "LIBERTY" inscribed above, the Capitol Building, and the year of the coin’s mintage.
The reverse depicts a female eagle protecting her hatchling beneath her wing while the male eagle stands watch over their nest.
It also bears the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” along with the coin’s weight, metal content, and face value, which reads “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS.”
An NGC MS-70 First Day of Issue coin
NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company works independently from sovereign mints and appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
MS or Mint State describes a coin with the same format as a business circulation one that remained uncirculated. 70 is the grade given to coins with no visible flaws.
For NGC, a First Day of Issue coin corresponds to a coin purchased from its original mint on the very first day of its official release and taken to NGC’s appraisal.
