The Design
The US Mint rescued Saint Gaudens’ Lady Liberty design, which was initially imprinted on the $20 Double Eagle Coin. In the image, the feminine guise marches forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, representing national progress, light, and peace.
The word “LIBERTY,” stars representing national states, the year of issuance, and the US Capitol Building complete the design.
On the reverse, Miley Busiek illustrates a female Bald Eagle cherishing her hatchling under her wing while the male Eagle perches their nest.
The design also displays the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” The coin’s weight, metal content, and face value are at the bottom, and it reads: “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD—25 DOLLARS.”
An NGC MS-70 Early Releases Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) appraises and grades coins according to the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70 based on the coin’s condition.
According to the NGC, “Early Releases” refer to coins that were publicly available within the first 30 days of the US Mint's official release.
MS or Mint State is a piece with the same format as a widespread circulation coin that remained uncirculated. Grade 70 is given to flawless coins.
