The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty's feminine form strides forward, holding a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing national progress, enlightenment, and peace. 

The design is completed with the word “LIBERTY,” the year of issuance, and the US Capitol Building. 

The reverse illustrates a family of Bald Eagles, with a female eagle protecting her hatchling under her wing while the male eagle watches over the nest. 

The design also includes the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.” At the bottom, the coin's weight, metal content, and face value are inscribed: “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD—25 DOLLARS.”

A PCGS MS-69 First Strike Coin

The PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins based on their condition, from 70 to 1.

A First Strike coin refers to coins manufactured within the first 30 days of the Mint’s release. 

MS stands for Mint State and describes a widespread circulation coin that has never been in circulation. Grade 69 is attributed to a coin whose original luster is preserved despite almost invisible minor contact marks or flaws.
