The US Mint first released American Gold Eagles in 1986, with the premiere of the American Eagle Program.
The debuting coin was the 1 oz American Gold Eagle, but the series was soon widened to include Gold Eagles of varied finishes and sizes, like the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle coin.
The half-ounce Gold Eagle is a 22k gold coin, legal tender, and has a 25-dollar face value.
Today, 2004 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins sealed in PCGS slabs and graded as MS-69 coins are available at SD Bullion.

The Design
Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin design was reproduced on Gold Eagles. In the image, Lady Liberty marches forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, meaning the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment.
The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim. The Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the coin’s mintage year is on the right.
On the reverse, Miley Busiek’s reverse design displays a family of Bald Eagles in which the female eagle cherishes its hatchling under her wing while the male one perches their nest.
The design also contains the coin’s description of weight, metal content, and face value, which reads “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD—25 DOLLARS,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
An NGC MS-69 Coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins based on the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins based on their condition, from 70 to 1.
According to the scale, MS stands for Mint State, referring to a coin made in the same format as a business circulation sample that has never been in circulation. Grade 69 is attributed to a coin whose original luster is preserved despite almost invisible minor contact marks or flaws.
